Chery’s Jetour 2 has just got a facelift in China, and it is most likely to delay the Indian launch. Let us explain. Jetour has launched the facelifted T2 PHEV in China, which is now called the Traveller 7, and it will be sold alongside the Traveller model. The new model has a host of changes, including the new exterior and interior design, and revised powertrains.
What has changed on the Jetour T2 facelift?
The big change is under the bonnet. The facelifted T2 now packs a heavily revised plug-in hybrid engine. This engine continues to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo unit, but it now gets a host of technical updates.
There is now a single motor that makes 307PS and 330 Nm, and a new 1-speed DHT gearbox that replaces the old 3-speed DHT transmission. This front-wheel-drive system has been carried over from the Jaeccoo J7, which makes it more powerful adn efficient.
Moreover, the PHEV now offers up to 173 km of pure EV range (WLTP), while the total range now stands at 1,400 km. For now, it is only available in FWD, but a 782 PS AWD version is also on its way. Apart from the PHEV, the global-spec model gets a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol options with slightly increased power output.
In terms of the design, the new Jetour 2 facelift now features a redesigned fascia with round LED headlights, a new body-coloured bumper, body-coloured wheel arches, a new roof-mounted spoiler, and new alloy wheels. The SUV now appears to be more sophisticated than before.
On the inside, the cabin features a redesigned dashboard, switches, new cabin leather upholstery, and a host of features like 8-point massaging seats, a 23-speaker sound system, 256-bit LED cabin ambient lighting, quilted upholstery, and a heavily upgraded autonomous safety assist system with passive safety features.
Why is the Indian-spec model delayed?
As per the reports published online, JSW Motors has pushed the Indian-spec T2’s launch to mid-December 2026. This push could be either due to the new T2 facelift, or may be due to internal reasons. While we are not sure why the launch has been pushed, we know that it will be called Combat in India, and JSW Motors will price it somewhere around Rs 40 lakh.
