Porsche has brought the Cayenne Electric to India, adding a fully electric powertrain to one of its most important SUV nameplates. The electric Cayenne will be sold alongside the existing petrol-powered versions, giving buyers a choice between different powertrain technologies.
Pricing and powertrain
Prices start at Rs 1.77 crore for the Cayenne Electric, while the range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric costs Rs 2.27 crore, both ex-showroom. Customer deliveries begin from September 30.
Both versions use a 113 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors, with all-wheel drive as standard. The standard Cayenne Electric produces 402 hp and 835 Nm, with Launch Control raising output to 442 hp. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.8 seconds and has a claimed range of 623 km.
The Turbo Electric takes performance considerably further. It develops 1,156 hp and 1,150 Nm, allowing it to sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 260 kmph, while the claimed range stands at 642 km.
Charging and features
Charging is another highlight. The Cayenne Electric supports up to 400 kW DC charging, allowing the battery to go from 10 to 80 percent in less than 16 minutes under suitable conditions. It is also Porsche’s first model to offer optional inductive wireless charging at up to 11 kW.
Despite sharing its name with the ICE Cayenne, the electric SUV uses Porsche’s PPE architecture, also used by the Audi Q6 e-tron. It has a longer wheelbase and gets a redesigned front end with a closed-off grille, slim LED headlamps and active aerodynamic elements. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar incorporates illuminated Porsche lettering.
The cabin gets Porsche’s latest digital interface, including a 14.5-inch curved central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and an optional 14.9-inch passenger display. An augmented-reality head-up display, four-zone climate control, panoramic roof and adaptive air suspension are also available.
Final thoughts
The Cayenne Electric brings Porsche’s performance-focused approach into the large electric SUV space without replacing the conventional Cayenne. With more than 1,000hp in Turbo guise, it certainly hasn’t arrived quietly.
