Hyundai’s upcoming HE1i compact electric SUV has been spotted testing at a fast-charging station, revealing fresh details about its charging hardware and equipment levels. The new EV will sit below the Creta Electric in Hyundai’s India lineup and is expected to make its debut by the end of 2026.
One of the more interesting details from the latest sighting is that the testing team was reportedly looking for a 120 kW charging point. This could indicate that the HE1i will support a higher DC fast-charging rate than the Creta Electric, which currently supports up to 100 kW.
However, Hyundai has not officially confirmed the HE1i’s maximum charging rate, so the 120kW figure should be treated as an indication from testing rather than a confirmed specification.
Different headlamps hint at multiple variants
Two HE1i test vehicles have also been spotted with different headlamp configurations. This suggests Hyundai could offer different lighting setups depending on the variant.
The heavily camouflaged SUV has an upright profile, flat roofline, roof rails and dual-tone alloy wheels. The overall shape points towards a practical, boxy design rather than the more coupe-like profile of the larger Creta Electric.
The HE1i will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) dedicated EV platform, which also underpins the global Inster. India will get standard-range and long-range versions, although battery capacities and certified range figures have not yet been revealed. Hyundai has also confirmed a next-generation infotainment system and Level 2 assisted driving technology.
Hyundai HE1i to be made in India
The new electric SUV will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu. It will compete with the likes of the Tata Nexon.ev, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV.
The HE1i is initially expected to use Svolt battery cells, with Hyundai planning to transition to locally sourced cells from Exide later. Final battery specifications, range, charging performance and pricing are expected to be announced closer to launch.
