Land Rover has revealed the Range Rover Sport Electric, marking the first fully electric version of the Sport nameplate. It uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup and is being positioned as the electric alternative to the performance-focused petrol versions of the SUV.
The powertrain produces 550 PS and 850 Nm, with torque reportedly building 50 percent faster than in the larger Range Rover Electric. Dynamic Launch Mode enables a 0-100kph sprint in 4.5 seconds, matching the claimed acceleration of the V8-powered Range Rover Sport.
The SUV will be built at JLR’s Solihull plant in the UK alongside the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions.
Powertrain and range
Power comes from a 118.5 kWh battery pack, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 609 km. JLR says the Sport Electric can deliver up to 533 km in real-world driving conditions.
The SUV supports high-speed DC charging, with the battery capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes under suitable conditions. It can also add more than 220km of range in approximately 10 minutes in ideal charging conditions.
Familiar design, electric-specific details
The Range Rover Sport Electric retains the familiar muscular proportions and upright silhouette of the existing Sport. However, the front grille and alloy wheels have been aerodynamically optimised to improve efficiency.
The electric SUV also gets the brand’s sophisticated chassis hardware, including all-wheel steering and electronic Active Roll Control. The latter can apply up to 1,400Nm of force across each axle to control body movements.
Despite its road-focused performance, the Sport Electric retains genuine off-road ability, including 900mm water-wading capability and the ability to tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees.
India bookings now open
JLR has opened bookings for the Range Rover Sport Electric in India, although the final price has not yet been announced. The model is expected to arrive in India in 2027, with prices currently expected to be announced early next year.
