Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Tiguan, an all-electric SUV that will enter global markets in 2027. The new model marks the first time the Tiguan nameplate gets an electric powertrain. It will be positioned as the successor to the ID.4 and ID.5, while the petrol, diesel and hybrid-powered Tiguan will continue to be sold alongside it.
Built on Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, the ID. Tiguan adopts the brand’s latest Pure Positive design language. The SUV gets a more upright, conventional SUV profile, distinguishing it from the crossover-like appearance of the outgoing ID.4 and ID.5.
A sharper design with a technology-focused cabin
The front features connected LED daytime running lights, illuminated Volkswagen branding and LED headlamps integrated into a black trim element. The bumper gets air curtains, lower fog lamps and a trapezoidal air intake. At the rear, wraparound LED tail-lamps connect to an illuminated Volkswagen logo.
Inside, the dashboard features a triple-screen layout. This includes a 10-inch digital driver’s display, a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen and an optional 12-inch passenger display. Volkswagen has retained physical buttons for key controls, addressing a common complaint about touchscreen-heavy interiors.
Depending on the variant, equipment includes powered front seats with memory, ventilation and massage functions, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, connected-car technology, an ADAS suite and a Harman Kardon sound system. The SUV also supports vehicle-to-load functionality.
Practicality remains a priority, with up to 534 litres of boot space and an additional 32-litre front storage compartment.
Three powertrains and up to 600 km of range
The ID. Tiguan will be offered with 58kWh and 77kWh battery options. The entry-level version uses a rear-mounted motor producing 190hp. The larger battery is available with rear-wheel drive producing 286hp, or dual-motor all-wheel drive with 299hp.
Volkswagen claims a maximum WLTP range of 600km, depending on the configuration. The SUV can also tow up to two tonnes, although the towing capacity varies by version. Charging speeds and charging times have not yet been announced.
Will the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan come to India?
Volkswagen has not confirmed an India launch. Its initial rollout is planned for global markets in 2027, with the ID. Tiguan expected to play a key role in the brand’s electric SUV portfolio.
