Ducati has brought the exclusive Formula 73 to India, adding a modern cafe racer inspired by one of the most significant motorcycles in its history. Priced at Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom, the limited-edition motorcycle celebrates the 1973 Ducati 750 Super Sport Desmo, the brand’s first road bike equipped with a desmodromic valve timing system.
The Formula 73 will be produced in a globally limited run of 873 numbered units. Ducati India has confirmed that its allocation has already sold out, and the motorcycle is no longer available for fresh bookings.
Inspired by Ducati’s racing heritage
The motorcycle gets a distinctive silver and aqua-green colour scheme inspired by the original model. A vertical gold stripe on the fuel tank references the unpainted strip used on the 750 Imola Desmo to check fuel levels. Clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors and a compact fairing give it a classic cafe racer profile.
It also features several billet aluminium components, including the brake and clutch levers, footpegs and a standard Rizoma fuel cap. Each motorcycle carries its name and serial number on the steering plate and comes with a certificate of authenticity, along with archival photographs and sketches in a special presentation box.
Perfromance
Power comes from an 803 cc, air-cooled L-twin Desmodue engine producing 73 hp at 8,250 rpm and 65.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The engine features desmodromic valve actuation and a two-valve-per-cylinder layout, while a Termignoni silencer has been developed specifically for the motorcycle.
The Formula 73 uses a steel trellis frame, a 41 mm KYB upside-down front fork and a preload-adjustable KYB rear shock. Braking is handled by a Brembo four-piston radial calliper and a 330 mm front disc. It rides on 17-inch spoked wheels fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres.
