New-gen Bajaj Pulsar 220 confirmed for 2027

Key highlights

  • Bajaj has confirmed a major generational update for the Pulsar 220.
  • The new-gen motorcycle is expected to arrive in early 2027, after Bajaj’s upcoming ADV.
  • The Pulsar 180 will not get a similar update, while the F250 will miss out on the N250 SS upgrade package.

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is finally set to get the comprehensive update that enthusiasts have been waiting for. Bajaj Auto has confirmed that the iconic motorcycle will receive a new-generation treatment, bringing it in line with the recently updated Classic Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 125.

The confirmation came during a media interaction in Pune. While Bajaj has not announced a launch timeline, the new-gen Pulsar 220 is expected to arrive in early 2027, following the launch of the company’s upcoming adventure motorcycle.

What can we expect from the new-gen Pulsar 220?

First introduced in July 2007, the Pulsar 220 has remained largely unchanged over the years, receiving incremental updates rather than a complete overhaul. The upcoming generation is expected to be its most significant update yet.

Bajaj is likely to follow the approach adopted for the new Classic Pulsar 150 and 125. This could mean an updated chassis with a diamond-type tubular frame, a revised oil-cooled 220cc engine and an electronic throttle body with ride-by-wire technology.

Other expected additions include a monoshock rear suspension, radial rear tyre and a new TFT instrument console. The latter could bring features such as Google Maps navigation, document storage, music controls and a lap timer.

These details, however, are expectations based on the direction of the newer Classic Pulsars and are not confirmed specifications. There is also hope for a six-speed gearbox and USD front forks, replacing the current motorcycle’s five-speed transmission and conventional telescopic forks.

The familiar semi-faired design and clip-on handlebars could continue, albeit with revisions. Retaining the recognisable front fascia would also help the new motorcycle preserve the identity that has made the 220F such a popular name.

No major updates for Pulsar 180 and F250

While the 220 is in line for a generational overhaul, the Pulsar 180 will not receive a similar update. Bajaj has reportedly ruled out plans for the motorcycle, possibly due to limited demand in the 180cc segment.

The Pulsar F250 is also being left out of the latest upgrade cycle. It will not receive the technology and feature package introduced on the new Pulsar N250 SS.
