Ather Energy has launched its Konarc electric scooter in New Delhi at a subsidised rate. Delhi’s EV policy offers up to Rs 10,000 per kWh, which is capped at Rs 30,000. This has helped Ather to price the Konarc in New Delhi at Rs 79,999 (ex-showroom).
Why is Ather Konarc cheaper in New Delhi?
Speaking of the Konarc, it is based on the brand’s latest EL platform, which allows for multiple powertrain options, giving the Konarc a range between 100-200 km (IDC). Meanwhile, Delhi’s EV Policy 2026 was introduced in July, offering a rebate of up to Rs 30,000 on two-wheelers that are priced at Rs 2.25 lakh or below and are approved under the policy.
However, this rebate is for the first year, which is then reduced to Rs 6,600 in the second year with a price cap of Rs 20,000, and then to Rs 3,300 with a price cap of Rs 10,000 in the third year. The Konarc’s 100 km variant is still underway, while the Konarc S variants offer between 125 km and 161 km of IDC range.
Interestingly, Delhi also offers a scrappage benefit for old two-wheelers while buying a new electric two-wheeler. This scrappage benefit is capped at Rs 10,000, which further lowers the purchase cost of an EV in New Delhi. The Delhi government has also banned the registration of new ICE two-wheelers from April 2028, and only electric two-wheelers will be allowed to get registered, as part of the EV Policy’s next advanced stage.
With that said, the Konarc scooter is now available in New Delhi, and it competes with the popular TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak scooters.
