Audi A2 e-tron revealed as the brand’s most affordable EV

Audi’s new A2 e-tron EV has broken cover in the international market as the most efficient car ever produced by the manufacturer. The new A2 e-tron carries the legacy of the original A2 crossover hatchback that was available from 1999 to 2005 internationally.

Audi A2 e-tron: Battery, specs and range

To begin with, the A2 e-tron comes with four battery options, and it is based on the VW Group MEB platform that is also used on the Audi Q4 e-tron, Volkswagen ID 3, and Skoda Elroq. All of these batteries are offered with a RWD configuration, and ironically there is no Quattro AWD option even on the top variant. With that said, the battery specs of the A2 e-tron are as follows:

• 52 kWh: 168 bhp and 350 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, 160 km/h top speed, 423 km WLTP range, 100 kW DC charging (10-80% in 24 minutes)
• 61 kWh: 188 bhp and 350 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, 160 km/h, 515 km WLTP range, 105 kW DC charging (10-80% in 26 minutes)
• 84 kW (two options): 228 bhp/322 bhp and 350 Nm/545 Nm, 0-100 – 7 seconds/5.7 seconds, 160 km/h and 200 km/h (on higher spec), 646 km/630 km (WLTP) range, 183 kW DC charging (10-80% in 29 minutes)

Exterior design

Audi has designed the A2 e-tron with the goal in mind that it has to be as efficient as possible. Hence, you will notice a lot of curved and rounded design bits, including a sloping roofline, closed wheel arches, a closed-off front profile, a completely covered underbelly, short overhangs, aerodynamic alloys, and a sleek profile with sharp LED lights, along with a small rear windshield.

This curved design is not only reminiscent of the first-gen A2, but it also offers a low coefficient of drag of 0.24 Cd, which makes it one of the most aerodynamic EVs worldwide. Meanwhile, the brand’s optional ‘Efficiency Package’ offers up to 12.8kWh/100 km of energy consumption.

Interior and features

Audi has gone full ‘green’ with the new A2 e-tron, as its interior features a blatant use of recycled materials. The dashboard features a dual-screen connected display with wireless connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), a new four-spoke steering wheel with roller-type controls and haptic touch buttons, and a new steering column carried from the 2026 Audi Q3 that boasts the gearshift buttons and electronic parking brake button as well.

The A2 e-tron is a spacious five-seater EV that focuses on efficiency. It also gets some unique design cues like the haptic touch controls for power windows on the door cards, a floating central control console for cupholders and multimedia controls that can be moved to create more space.

In terms of technology, it packs a massive 12.8-inch infotainment screen and an 11.9-inch digital driver cockpit with an augmented reality head-up display. The car comes with comfort features like a seven-speaker sound system that can be upgraded to an optional 14-speaker Sonos sound system, panoramic sunroof, cabin ambient lighting, rear AC vents, etc.

Audi has priced the new A2 e-tron in Germany at around Rs 41.92 lakh (as per today’s exchange rate). Currently, there is no information on whether the A2 e-tron will be launched in India or not.
