First Hero electric motorcycle launch confirmed for 2027

Key highlights

  • First-ever Hero electric motorcycle launch confirmed for 2027
  • Two platforms to be offered: UBEX and VXZ
  • VXZ platform has been developed with Zero Motorcycles

As confirmed recently by Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer of Hero Emerging Mobility Business Unit, Hero MotoCorp has confirmed that the first electric motorcycle of the brand will be introduced in 2027 in India. The official confirmation also added that the company is making steady progress in the development of this new motorcycle, and the brand will share more details regarding it in the coming weeks.

At EICMA 2025, Hero MotoCorp showcased two dedicated electric platforms for the upcoming electric motorcycles. These included an in-house UBEX platform and a VXZ platform that has been co-developed with the US-based Zero Motorcycles, the latter being one of the premium high-performance EV two-wheeler experts globally.

This upcoming electric motorcycle will expand the company’s EV portfolio, which is currently limited to the Vida electric scooter range. Additionally, the new electric motorcycle will focus on what customers demand from a practical electric motorcycle, which is gradeability, performance, range, and rideability.

Meanwhile, the Vida electric platform has been witnessing steady success. Hero MotoCorp is planning to scale up the Vida electric scooter production from the current 15,000 units to 45,000 units in FY2027.

The new electric motorcycle is likely to be positioned against rivals like the Matter and Ultraviolette. Although considering the fact that the focus is on the mass market, we believe that the UBEX platform-based electric motorcycle will be a more affordable offering, focusing on range and reliability for everyday commuting, while the VXZ-based electric bike will focus on the performance category buyers who prefer Ultraviolette bikes as of now.

More details are likely to be revealed in the coming months about this upcoming Hero electric motorcycle.
