Five upcoming Mahindra SUVs spotted testing, from the XUV 3XO CNG to the Thar EV

Key highlights

  • Mahindra is preparing updates across its SUV range, including the XUV 3XO CNG, Vision S-based SUV, Thar Roxx, Scorpio-N and Thar EV.
  • The XUV 3XO CNG is scheduled to debut on October 15, 2026, while the Vision S-based SUV is expected to arrive in 2027.
  • The Thar EV is being developed with design cues inspired by the Vision T concept, while the Scorpio-N facelift could bring styling and cabin updates.

Mahindra is preparing to expand its SUV portfolio across multiple segments and powertrains. Recent sightings of test vehicles have offered a glimpse of what the company is developing, ranging from a CNG-powered compact SUV to an all-electric off-roader.

These models are at different stages of development. The XUV 3XO CNG is close to its scheduled debut, while the Vision S-based SUV and Thar EV appear to be further away from production.

1. Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG to debut on October 15

The XUV 3XO CNG is the closest to launch among these upcoming models. Mahindra has scheduled its debut for October 15, 2026, marking its entry into the factory-fitted CNG compact SUV space. Recent spy shots show an exterior that largely resembles the standard XUV 3XO. A CNG sticker on the rear windscreen provides a clue to the new powertrain.

Mahindra has not confirmed the engine specifications, boot-space arrangement or prices. The CNG version could appeal to buyers looking to reduce running costs without switching to an electric vehicle.

2. Vision S-based SUV expected in 2027

The production version of the Vision S concept is expected to become a rugged-looking compact SUV. Its final name has not been announced, and speculation about it being called the Scorpio Sport remains unconfirmed. Spy shots suggest a boxy silhouette, upright styling, distinctive LED lighting and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The cabin could share some components with existing Mahindra SUVs.

The model is expected to use Mahindra’s NU_IQ platform, which is designed to accommodate different vehicle sizes and powertrains. A 2027 arrival is anticipated, although the company has yet to confirm its launch schedule.

3. Mahindra Thar Roxx could get suspension upgrades

Mahindra is reportedly testing the Thar Roxx with DaVinci dampers, a suspension technology associated with updates to other models in its portfolio. The potential change could improve ride comfort and body control, particularly on uneven roads. However, Mahindra has not confirmed whether these dampers will make it to the production-spec Thar Roxx or announced a timeline for the update.

If introduced, this would be a mechanical refinement rather than a major redesign of the five-door SUV.

4. Scorpio-N facelift could bring styling and cabin changes

A more substantial update is reportedly in development for the Scorpio-N. While Mahindra introduced equipment changes to the SUV in August 2026, a separate facelift is expected to bring further revisions. Reports suggest that the exterior could draw inspiration from the Scorpio Lifestyler pickup concept. The cabin may also receive a portrait-oriented infotainment screen and dashboard changes. The extent of these updates, along with the launch timeline, remains unconfirmed.

5. Mahindra Thar EV based on the Vision T concept

The Thar EV is among Mahindra’s more significant upcoming projects. A heavily camouflaged test vehicle has been spotted, with design elements that appear to draw inspiration from the Vision T concept unveiled in 2025. The electric SUV is expected to retain the Thar’s boxy proportions and rugged appearance while adopting an all-electric powertrain.

Mahindra has not revealed its battery capacity, motor output, driving range or charging specifications. Its final production design and launch timeline also remain unconfirmed.
