Honda has announced a recall covering 43,913 motorcycles in the US, and this one involves a component that is rather more important than it sounds. The issue is linked to the steering-lock mechanism, where a screw can loosen and detach.
What’s the problem?
The issue centres around the screw that secures the motorcycle’s handlebar lock. According to the recall information, the screw may loosen and eventually detach. If that happens, the loose component could become lodged between the frame and steering stem. A screw sitting where it shouldn’t could interfere with steering movement and potentially increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Honda’s recall campaign is therefore not about an engine or electrical issue. It is a relatively small component, but one that can have a potentially significant effect on the motorcycle’s steering.
Which motorcycles are affected?
The recall covers certain examples of the Honda CMX500 Rebel, including 2017-2023 and 2025 model years.
The CMX300 Rebel is also affected, with certain 2017-2023 and 2025-2026 motorcycles included in the campaign. The 2025 Honda SCL500 is the third model covered by the recall.
The latest campaign also expands on an earlier Honda recall. An initial recall filed earlier this year covered 19,406 motorcycles, including certain 2023-2025 Rebel 300, Rebel 500 and CL500 models.
Free fix at Honda dealerships
The good news is that the remedy is fairly straightforward. Honda dealers will replace the steering-lock screw and apply thread-locking compound, with the repair being carried out free of charge.
US owners can check whether their motorcycle is affected using its VIN. Honda is expected to begin mailing owner notification letters from September 21, 2026.
There is currently no indication that this specific 43,913-unit US recall applies to motorcycles sold in India. Honda India has not announced a corresponding recall based on the information available at the time of writing.
