Hyundai compact SUV – What do we know so far?

The upcoming Hyundai compact SUV twin test mules were recently spied. While both test cars were completely camouflaged, some interesting design and feature details have surfaced. The first bit is the boxy design, which takes its inspiration from the Ioniq 5, as the test cars were equipped with a sleek connected LED taillight setup.

Look closely, and one can see the small overhangs, hinting that it could be the “small SUV with off-road capabilities” that Hyundai teased in its presentation in October 2025. This unnamed SUV is likely to be positioned between the Venue and Exter, with its pricing fiddling with both models.

Other interesting details include the dual-tone alloy wheels, Venue-like ORVMs with a 360-degree camera, a black roof-integrated spoiler, and flush-type door handles. The test mules also had a functional roof rail setup, something we see on serious SUVs only.

As per the online report, the cabin design had a large central touchscreen infotainment and a big digital console, which indicates that it will be a feature-equipped SUV, and there will be numerous variants on the cards.

While the engine and specifications about it are unknown, we suspect that Hyundai could offer it with the i20-sourced 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with the 7-speed DCT gearbox. However, the lower variants could be offered with the 1.2-litre Kappa engine, which also powers the lower variants of the i20 and Venue.

The debut timeline is yet to be determined, but our anticipation says that it could be unveiled by the end of this year, while the launch and deliveries are likely to happen in 2027.
