JSW MG Motor unveils ADAPT, India’s first multi-powertrain new energy vehicle platform

Key highlights

  • JSW MG Motor India has unveiled MG ADAPT, India’s first multi-powertrain New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform
  • Supports EV, HEV, PHEV and REEV powertrains on a single architecture
  • One electric vehicle and one plug-in hybrid model will debut on the platform by FY2026-27

JSW MG Motor India has taken the wraps off MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), a new modular platform that will underpin the brand’s next generation of electrified vehicles in India.

Unlike conventional vehicle platforms that support a single type of powertrain, MG ADAPT has been designed to accommodate electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range extender electric vehicles on the same architecture. The company says its first EV and first plug-in hybrid model based on the new platform will be launched during FY2026-27.

Focus on efficiency and performance

The new architecture has been engineered to improve several aspects of vehicle performance, including:

  • Driving range
  • Fast-charging capability
  • Overall efficiency
  • Safety
  • Driving refinement

Its modular design is also expected to reduce product development time and allow MG to introduce new models more quickly.

Hybrid-specific technologies

One of the highlights of MG ADAPT is its integrated hybrid system.

It combines:

  • Dedicated hybrid petrol engine
  • Dedicated battery pack
  • 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit
  • Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission

An intelligent energy management system continuously switches between four drive modes depending on driving conditions.

Drive Modes

  • Pure Electric Drive
  • Series Hybrid Drive
  • Parallel Hybrid Drive
  • Engine Direct Drive

The platform also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology, where the electric motor drives the wheels while the petrol engine functions only as a generator to recharge the battery.

First models arrive next year

JSW MG Motor has confirmed that one electric vehicle and one plug-in hybrid vehicle based on the ADAPT platform will make their debut in FY2026-27.

While the company hasn’t revealed which models will use the architecture first, ADAPT is expected to form the foundation for several future MG products in India.
