Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that its manufacturing facility at Chakan, Maharashtra, has crossed the milestone of producing 3 million vehicles. The landmark vehicle to roll off the assembly line was the BE 6, the company’s electric SUV, highlighting the plant’s growing role in Mahindra’s EV journey.
The achievement also reflects how rapidly Mahindra’s production has grown over the years. While it took the company 107 months to build its first million vehicles at the facility, the latest million has been produced in just 27 months.

The facility has been designed to support multiple vehicle platforms, allowing Mahindra to manufacture internal combustion, electric and commercial vehicles under one roof.
Built for modern manufacturing
Mahindra says the Chakan facility combines advanced manufacturing technologies with flexible production systems to improve quality and efficiency.

- Digital traceability across operations
- Around 1,500 robots on the production line
- More than 98% automation in the body shop
- Seven multi-model assembly lines
- Real-time quality monitoring systems
These technologies help the company manufacture multiple products efficiently while maintaining consistent quality standards.
Sustainability remains a focus
Mahindra also highlighted the environmental initiatives implemented at the Chakan facility.

- Over 50% renewable energy usage across the plant
- EV production powered entirely by renewable energy
- Water-positive operations
- Zero Waste to Landfill certification
- Annual rainwater recharge of nearly 9.91 lakh kilolitres
Supporting global markets
Apart from catering to the domestic market, the Chakan facility also supports Mahindra’s export operations. Vehicles manufactured here are shipped to international markets including South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
