Kawasaki has introduced a new variant of the KLE500 adventure-tourer motorcycle, called the SmartRide. The new variant adds a centrifugal clutch to the ADV, which offers clutchless gear shifts for ease of riding.

Kawasaki KLE500 SE SmartRide: Clutchless gear shifts and more

The new KLE500 SE SmartRide variant comes with a new trademark technology. The SmartRide clutch features a new setup that uses a centrifugal design. This setup is completely mechanical, and it is somewhat identical to BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch that is offered on the new F 450 GS in India.

Unlike Honda’s E-Clutch system, which works on electronic actuators that engage and disengage the clutch, the SmartRide clutch system uses mechanical force to engage or disengage the clutch. This feature is very useful while riding in bumper-to-bumper traffic, allowing the rider to rest and experience stress-free riding.

With that said, the SmartRide variant of the KLE500 SE is only going to be available in the global market. This bike is yet to be launched in India.

Powering the KLE500 SE is the tried-and-tested 451cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that is also used on the NX500. This engine makes 45 bhp and 42.6 Nm, and it is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and gets a slipper clutch.

The KLE500 SE features a tall rally motorcycle-like design with an upright and relaxed riding position. The bike has a slim build with lightweight panels, and it rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoked rims.

The electronic package includes a coloured TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity, ride modes, Kawasaki Traction Control System, a dual-channel ABS, LED lights, and more. As of now, Kawasaki has no plans to launch the KLE500 SE SmartRide in India.
