KTM 990 RC R: Everything you need to know
The new 990 RC R has been launched in the US at a starting price of USD 13,949 (approximately Rs 12.38 lakh). This new sportsbike marks the re-entry of KTM in the super sports segment internationally. It is being considered as the successor to the KTM RC8.
Speaking of the details, it is based on a steel trellis frame of the 990 Duke, but it has been heavily modified to accommodate the super sports riding posture and new mechanicals. It also gets an aluminium swingarm, along with the fully adjustable WP Apex suspension.
Powering the 990 RC R is the 947cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that offers 128 bhp and 103 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission and comes equipped with the six-axis IMU, offering features like cornering ABS, wheelie control, launch control, etc.
KTM has equipped it with a massive 8.8-inch TFT console. It also gets four riding modes: Rain, Street, Sport, and Performance. The brand is also offering an optional Track package for track-oriented riding.
In terms of design, it features a sharp MotoGP-inspired outlook with functional winglets on the front and on the tail. The bike is also loaded with a small, powerful LED headlight in the centre of the front fairing.
KTM is unlikely going to bring the 990 RC R in India. Although even if it gets launched, it will compete with the Kawasaki ZX-6R.
