Mahindra Thar Roxx may get a ride upgrade with new DaVinci dampers

Key highlights

  • Thar Roxx test mule spotted with potential suspension upgrades
  • DaVinci dampers could improve ride comfort and handling
  • Mahindra has not yet confirmed the update or launch timeline

Mahindra appears to be working on another mechanical update for the Thar Roxx. A test mule of the SUV has been spotted in India, and the latest speculation points towards the addition of Mahindra’s DaVinci suspension technology.

The development comes shortly after the three-door Thar was updated and renamed Thar OG, which gained the more sophisticated dampers already used on the XUV7XO. The Thar Roxx currently uses a penta-link rear suspension along with Frequency Dependent Dampers (FDD).

What could change with DaVinci suspension?

The DaVinci system is essentially an advanced form of frequency-dependent damping. Conventional FDD systems alter oil flow through a mechanical valve depending on road inputs. However, their damping characteristics remain relatively linear.

Mahindra’s DaVinci dampers use a different shim-stack and valve arrangement. This allows the damping curve to become non-linear, giving the suspension more flexibility across different types of inputs.

In practical terms, this could allow the Thar Roxx to remain comfortable over smaller road imperfections while offering better control when it encounters larger bumps, sharp undulations or harder cornering loads.

Thar Roxx already has sophisticated suspension

The Thar Roxx was positioned as the more family-friendly and road-biased member of the Thar family, without giving up its off-road credentials. Its penta-link rear suspension and FDD setup already offer a more sophisticated ride than many traditional ladder-frame SUVs.

Adding DaVinci dampers could further widen the gap between the Thar Roxx and the recently updated Thar OG. The latter is now positioned as the more focused off-roader, while the Roxx places greater emphasis on everyday usability and long-distance comfort.

Final thoughts

Mahindra has not officially confirmed that the Thar Roxx will get DaVinci dampers. However, the appearance of test vehicles suggests that suspension-related development is underway. If introduced, this could be a meaningful mechanical upgrade rather than just another cosmetic refresh.
