Mercedes-Benz has launched the facelifted Maybach S-Class in India, bringing the brand’s flagship luxury sedan into the plug-in hybrid era. Priced at Rs 3.35 crore, the S 580e costs around Rs 97 lakh more than the recently launched S-Class Manufaktur Edition AMG Line.
Only 30 units have been allocated for the first batch, underlining its limited availability. The new Maybach is also Mercedes-Benz’s third PHEV in India, following the updated S-Class and AMG E 53 Hybrid.
Powertrain
The biggest change is underneath the bonnet. Instead of the outgoing model’s 4.0-litre V8, the S 580e combines a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine producing 443hp and 560Nm with a 160hp electric motor. Combined output stands at 585 hp and 750 Nm, with all-wheel drive as standard. The 22 kWh battery enables up to 98 km of electric-only range and an electric top speed of 140 kmph.
The Maybach gets Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold drive modes, along with adjustable energy recuperation and one-pedal driving. Charging is supported through an 11kW AC onboard charger and up to 60kW DC fast charging. Air suspension and rear-axle steering are standard.
Comfort
As expected, the Maybach focuses heavily on rear-seat comfort. The S 580e comes with a four-seat layout and executive rear seats with a full-length business console as standard. The rear seats recline up to 43 degrees and feature heating, ventilation and massage functions. Rear Comfort Package Plus adds fold-out tables, wireless charging, ambient lighting and temperature-controlled cup holders. Two smartphone-style remotes replace the previous tablet controller.
Up front, the MBUX Superscreen combines the central touchscreen with a passenger display and a 3D driver display. A 31-speaker Burmester 4D audio system, augmented-reality head-up display and dual rear entertainment screens are also included.
Subtle design changes, unmistakable Maybach
The facelift gets a 20 percent larger illuminated grille with Maybach’s signature vertical slats and an illuminated Maybach wordmark. Rose-gold detailing appears around the new Digital Light headlamps.
The India-spec model rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels, while the illuminated Maybach badge on the D-pillar adds another visual distinction. The Maybach remains 180 mm longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class.
