Mahindra has added the Battery-as-a-Service subscription option for the XEV 9S and XEV 9e models, following the BE6 Sporteq. BaaS, or Battery-as-a-Service, is a battery rental subscription option that offers a lower initial purchase cost of the car by paying separately for the battery.
As per the details revealed by the company, the BaaS option now offers an effective usage cost of Rs 3.75/km for the battery, while the battery EMI is Rs 6,975. With the BaaS option, the XEV 9S is now priced at Rs 12.65 lakh, while the XEV 9e is priced at Rs 13.90 lakh. These prices do not include the cost of road tax, insurance, charger cost, TCS, and other charges.
Meanwhile, the BaaS option is available only for private use, and not for commercial operators. Moreover, the battery EMI is based on the size of the battery, down payment, and tenure of the loan. With the BaaS option now available for the XEV range, Mahindra has become one of the select manufacturers in the country to offer the battery rental subscription option for its EVs.
Speaking of the brand’s future plans, the upcoming product launches include the Thar 3-Door facelift and the Vision S SUV. The latter is one of the anticipated launches, which is scheduled for next year. The Vision S will also introduce the brand’s new NU_IQ platform, which will house a range of SUVs, including hybrid, PHEV, and EV options in the future.
The BaaS option is a tailor-made option for buyers looking for EVs with fixed annual or monthly usage. This helps reduce the long-term ownership cost by paying for the use of the battery.
