Maruti Suzuki has announced that its crossover SUV Fronx has crossed the 2 lakh export milestone, which makes it the fastest SUV in India to do so. Mind you, the Fronx is exported to 90 countries from India, and it is sold with various engine options and drivetrain options.
What makes the Maruti Suzuki Fronx so popular?
Maruti Suzuki introduced the Fronx SUV in April 2023. It became an instant hit due to its striking exterior design, spacious cabin, and peppy engine performance. Maruti began exporting the Fronx from its Hansalpur, Gujarat-based facility in June 2026 to various countries, including Japan.
Speaking of the numbers, Fronx took only 25 months to reach 1 lakh sales in India, which positioned it as the new segment leader. The Fronx competes with the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite in India, and its versatile engine options help Maruti achieve the segment-topping sales figures.
The global-spec Fronx is identical to the Indian-spec model visually. In fact, it packs the same features, colours, and design traits. However, the biggest difference is the powertrain and drivetrain on the global-spec model. Some countries are supplied with the 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine and the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Moreover, some specific markets are offered with all-wheel-drive technology, including its home ground, Japan. With that said, Fronx is offered with a 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine in India, which is highly fuel-efficient and peppy for city use. Moreover, it also gets a frugal CNG powertrain, which makes it more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
