Hyundai compact EV: What to expect?

As confirmed by the company’s top official at the latest Hyundai Investor Day 2025 event, Hyundai is developing a new compact EV, which is scheduled to debut in India in 2027. This unnamed EV is possibly going to be based on the Hyundai Inster EV, but will feature a reworked chassis and design.

Hyundai also said that this new EV will be tailor-made for India and will be based on the E-GMP (K) platform. As per the online reports, the new EV will be made in India and also exported to international markets. Mind you, the Inster EV was also reported to be launched in India by 2026, but later the company denied these reports.

Speaking of this upcoming EV, it will likely be offered in a standard and a long-range variant. The standard version will possibly use the Inster’s 42kWh battery pack, while the long-range is likely to get the 49kWh battery. The maximum range on offer could be around 350km on a single charge.

Another interesting feature will be the addition of Level 2 ADAS. If so, it will become the most affordable Hyundai EV in India with an autonomous safety aid system. The expected launch timeline for this new EV is around mid-2027.
