Mahindra showcased the new-generation Scorpio pickup truck concept at its Annual Independence Day event in 2023. Ever since, multiple test mules have been sighted testing across India. However, it is widely assumed that Mahindra will reveal the production version of this new-gen pickup truck this Independence Day in India. Ahead of the reveal, a test unit that looks production-ready was spotted recently with complete camouflage.
Mahindra Scorpio N pickup: What do we know so far?
Interestingly, the newly sighted test unit seems to have a different fascia from the previous test mules. The pickup also had the production hardware and cosmetic elements, which further hints at its launch in the near future.
Speaking of the details, its front features a new fascia that seems to be more similar to its concept version, rather than the Scorpio N facelift. Additionally, it has a new grille with horizontal slats, sleek LED headlights with C-shaped daytime running lights, vertical foglight housing with cornering lights (expected), and a muscular bumper design.
The test mule also has new alloy wheels, which we suspect are 18 inches. Meanwhile, it boasts a dual-cab design with a big greenhouse, hinting at a spacious and practical cabin as per pickup truck standards.
The rear profile comprises a long loading bay and vertical LED taillights, which looks inspired from the previous-gen Scorpio Getaway pickup truck. Mind you, the latter has been an utter success in select markets like Australia, and Mahindra aims to repeat the same with the new-gen model.
Going by its exterior, we sense that the interior design will focus on comfort and practicality. It is expected to get the three-spoke steering wheel from the Scorpio N facelift, a big infotainment screen, and features like wireless charging, front ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and more.
Powering the new Scorpio N facelift will be the same engine options as the Scorpio N, but in a detuned state to offer better tractability and load-ferrying capabilities. The 4X4 drivetrain is expected to be offered as standard, although the base version could get a single-cab design and a 4X2 drivetrain, aimed at cost saving.
Mahindra will not position the Scorpio N pickup truck against the Toyota Hilux, because neither it will belong to the same segment, and nor it will be as powerful as the Hilux. Rather, the Scorpio pickup truck will be more of a low-cost alternative to the new Hilux, which could be priced around Rs 15-20 lakh.
