It’s finally happening. Tata Motors has officially announced the comeback of one of India’s most loved SUVs, the Sierra. The launch is set for November 25, 2025, and for those who remember the original from the ‘90s, this one’s going to hit right in the nostalgia. A bold, futuristic SUV that introduced India to the concept of lifestyle motoring. And now, three decades later, it’s making a grand return, bigger, smarter, and built for a whole new generation of explorers.
But this isn’t a sentimental rehash. The new Sierra is a full-grown midsize SUV, positioned neatly between the Curvv and the Harrier in Tata’s lineup. It’s ready to take on the big names like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder.
Powertrain and Performance
The Sierra will first launch in petrol and diesel avatars, with the electric version joining the lineup a few months later in early 2026. Expect the petrol models to debut Tata’s all-new 1.5-litre turbocharged T-GDI engine, while lower trims might use a naturally aspirated variant. On the diesel side, it’ll borrow the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre unit from the Curvv, fine-tuned for better torque delivery and efficiency.
Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT, depending on the variant. Power output is expected to hover around 170 PS for petrol and 118 PS for diesel, with torque figures of 280 Nm and 260 Nm respectively which is enough to make those weekend road trips as fun as they are effortless.
Design and Features
The new Sierra beautifully blends old-school charm with modern sophistication. It keeps its boxy stance, signature curved rear windows, and chunky wheel arches, but adds sharper lines and a sleek, aerodynamic edge. Up front, it sports a bold gloss-black grille, split LED headlamps, and a connected DRL setup, while the rear looks clean and modern with slim LED tail lamps and a subtle roof spoiler.
Inside, Tata’s gone all out. The triple-screen dashboard setup looks straight out of a concept car with a digital driver display, a central infotainment touchscreen, and even a passenger-side screen for media or navigation. Other creature comforts include:
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated front seats
- Dual-zone climate control
- Wireless charging
- 360-degree camera
- JBL premium sound system
- Level-2 ADAS with 6 airbags and ESC
Price and Rivals
The ICE-powered Sierra is expected to start around INR 11 lakh, going up to about INR 21 lakh for the fully-loaded variant. The EV version, meanwhile, will likely sit between INR 18 lakh and INR 25 lakh, depending on battery range and feature levels.
In its electric form, it’ll lock horns with the Creta EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6, putting Tata right in the thick of the EV game once again.
