Along with the reveal of the upcoming Roadster ‘flying car’, Tesla not only commenced bookings in India, but the American EV maker has also given a silent upgrade to the Model Y L. The six-seater EV has received a thrust upgrade, which has reduced its 0-100 km/h time from 5.0 seconds (previous) to 4.5 seconds (new).
While the brand did not reveal any other details, this upgrade seems solely for acceleration. The EV is unaltered, and there are no additions or removals of any features from the car. Even the price is the same as before, i.e. Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Moreover, this performance upgrade has not come at the cost of the range. The EV still offers 681 km of range (claimed).
The Model Y L was launched in India last year as a comfortable family crossover with six captain seats and more features that offered second-row recline, ventilation, and more. The Model Y L comes with AWD, and the brand has not disclosed whether it has made any mechanical or technical changes to improve its performance. Additionally, the improved performance will be offered on the cars sold on or after October 1, 2026. However, Tesla could also offer the improved performance to previous owners, but it will come at an additional price for sure.
With that said, Tesla’s next big bet is the Roadster two-door sports car that was unveiled with the world’s first flying car technology. Tesla has already commenced bookings for the Roadster in India with Rs 50 lakh for the Standard variant. However, the Rocket variant that comes with the perimeter-mounted thrusters that can fly it, has been priced at Rs 2.5 crore just for the reservation. The Roadster will hit the production line in 2028 and it will be sold only with the left-hand drive configuration.
