Hyundai is gearing up to launch its new compact EV in India early next year. This unnamed electric compact SUV has already been spotted a few times, and now a recent media report claims that it will be launched in January 2027.
Hyundai compact EV: What do we know so far?
Hyundai officials have been hinting that a new ‘made in India’ compact EV is coming soon. Earlier, it was hinted that this EV would debut by the end of 2026, but now a recent report from Autocar India states that this unnamed EV will debut in India in January 2027.
This compact EV will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform, which is already used on multiple EVs, including the Inster EV, in the global market. Some media reports hint that this EV will be a modern version of the Inster EV, but we are unsure whether this is true or not.
What we are sure of is that it will be offered in at least two range types: Standard and Long-Range. Therefore, the possibility of two battery packs persists. These could be carried forward from the Inster, which uses a 42 kWh and a 49 kWh battery in the international market, offering up to 355 km of range.
The previous spy shots have already revealed that it will get a boxy design, something like a Kei car. This will allow for a spacious and comfortable interior design for a small family, which is essentially going to be the target audience of this EV.
Indian test mules were previously seen with dual-tone alloys, Level 2 ADAS safety module, and projector LED lights. Hyundai will ensure that this EV comes with all goodies. As far as the price is concerned, it is likely going to be positioned around Rs 9-15 lakh.
