2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ reborn: What is new?
The FJ Cruiser nameplate was born in 1951, and with the debut of the 2026 iteration, Toyota has continued the iconic brand name globally. The new-gen Land Cruiser FJ is based on the refined IMV platform, which is also shared by the Hilux and Fortuner in South Asia.
The exterior design of the new FJ Cruiser has a touch of modernity and retro charm. It gets the boxy silhouette, reminiscent of the old FJ Cruiser, while the new touches include the MOLLE Panels that allow easy installation of camping and other accessories, and removable bumpers.
To enhance its styling, it gets the new LED lights, with optional round LED headlights that look like the 2002 FJ Cruiser model. The rear design is equipped with a tailgate-mounted spare tyre and C-shaped LED lights.
Dimension-wise, it is 4,575mm longer, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,960 mm taller. These dimensions are small compared to the Land Cruiser 250. However, it gets 270mm of ground clearance, offering good wheel articulation and better off-road capabilities. Toyota claims that the new Land Cruiser FJ has retained every bit of its dependability in off-roading and comfort.
On the inside, it gets a modern cabin with utilitarian functionality. The black theme is well suited for off-road use, while it gets a digital console, a big infotainment screen with built-in wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and other smart connectivity features. Toyota has yet to reveal the complete details of the cabin.
Powering the new-gen Land Cruiser FJ is the Fortuner-sourced, 2.7-litre petrol engine. It offers 161 bhp and 246 Nm of power and torque. It has been paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a 4X4 drivetrain with electronically-locking differentials.
Safety-wise, it gets the Level 2 ADAS tech, including the adaptive cruise control, front collision alert and avoidance assist, blind spot assist, lane change and lane keep assist, and a 360-degree camera.
Toyota will officially showcase the first prototype of the new Land Cruiser FJ at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025, which is set to take place between October 30 to November 9, 2025. More details regarding its international launch and prices will be revealed then.
