What do we know about the upcoming BYD plug-in hybrid SUV?
Plug-in hybrids are still a developing, or rather, a new niche in India. With the consistently rising fuel prices, BYD sees an opportunity to establish authority in this domain, and hence, the brand is soon going to launch a PHEV SUV. The teaser for this SUV says “DM-i”, which is the nomenclature of the PHEV or hybrid tech of the brand.
While the exact model or its details are unknown, a test mule of the Sealion 6 PHEV was recently spotted in India. Assuming that it could be the Sealion 6 PHEV, it could be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and two battery options: 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh. The petrol engine is offered with NA or turbo options. The Sealion 6 PHEV can deliver up to 1,092 km of range on a full tank of fuel as per the WLTP cycle.
On the other hand, online rumours also report that the Atto 2 DM-i PHEV could be introduced as an affordable offering. It is equally possible, since this crossover SUV was recently introduced in its latest avatar globally, and we have already seen its test mules roaming around in India.
If so, the Atto 2 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine and two battery options: 7.8 kWh and 18 kWh. The former offers a combined range of up to 928 km on a full tank of fuel, while the latter offers up to 998 km as per the WLTP cycle.
More details about this new plug-in hybrid car will be revealed soon.
