After a long stint with no new product launches, Jeep India has something interesting for brand lovers. The American brand has patented the design of the third-generation Compass EV 4WD in India, giving hope that a new chapter is about to be unlocked.
As seen in the latest design patent, the EV is based on the third-gen Compass that is already sold in global markets like Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. While the brand has already announced that introducing the new-generation Compass is financially unviable, the design patent says otherwise.
However, this is a regular practice followed by all automakers, where the company patents the design and name to reserve its intellectual property rights. This process is likely followed by Jeep for the Compass EV too, but it is interesting, as this opens the gates for a possible future launch of the Compass EV in India.
Meanwhile, Jeep has also announced a new SUV for the Indian market. It is currently under development, and it will be based on a platform shared by Tata Motors. This SUV will be exclusively made for Indian consumers, keeping the domestic market needs in mind.
The global-spec third-gen Compass comes with features like a 16-inch touchscreen, Level 2+ ADAS safety features, full 4×4 drivetrain with terrain and traction modes, and more. There are multiple powertrain options as well, which include the mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, turbo petrol, and the BEV option.
The latter comes with a 74 kWh battery pack, an FWD setup producing 213 bhp, and the long-range variant offering up to 650 km of range (WLTP). The new Compass EV 4WD comes with a dual-motor setup producing 315 bhp and offers a WLTP range of up to 600 km.
