What is new on the Volkswagen Taigun facelift?

Volkswagen Taigun facelift

The all-new Taigun facelift is now available nationwide, with pre-bookings open at Rs 11,000 to Rs 50,000. It is the first mid-life update of the Taigun in India, and the brand has made substantial and meaningful updates to the SUV.

On the outside, it now boasts a redesigned front end with the new LED projector headlamps that come equipped with self-levelling technology. The sleek grille now comes with an LED band and an illuminated VW logo, which matches the international models like the Tayron. Another update is the all-new front bumper with a redesigned lower grille and black highlights with horizontal fins.

The side profile is mostly unchanged, save for the new 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, which are painted in a gloss black shade on the GT variants. At the back, it features a new, sharp connected LED taillight setup with an illuminated VW logo and a new rear bumper.

Step inside, and the cabin feels fresh with the new optional upholstery options that can be chosen from 6 layouts. Additionally, a new 10-inch infotainment screen with improved UI and a new digital instrument console that mimics the Taigun are now the major centre of attraction.

Volkswagen has also added new features on the Taigun facelift, which include the dual-pane panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lights, and wireless charging as well. The brand also claims to have improved the AC compressor for better cabin cooling.

However, the Taigun facelift misses out on the rear massaging seats that the new Skoda Kushaq gets. While the new Taigun is still a 5-star rated SUV in terms of safety, the current architecture does not allow the engineers to embed a 360-degree camera or ADAS features.

Under the bonnet, the new Taigun remains unaltered, save for the new 8-speed torque converter AT gearbox for the 1.0 TSI engine, which replaces the outgoing 6-speed torque converter. The brand claims that this will improve the efficiency of the SUV by 5.8%. Meanwhile, the manual gearbox on the 1.5 TSI engine is now available.

The new Taigun comes with a standard warranty of 4 years, a 4-year roadside assistance, and 3-year free labour costs on servicing. Volkswagen is likely to announce the variant-wise prices of the Taigun facelift in the coming days.
