Mercedes-Maybach has taken the cover off the new 2026 GLS 580 flagship luxury SUV. The new SUV now packs a host of design upgrades, new features, and a more powerful V8 engine.
2026 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 580: Everything to know
The new 2026 GLS 580 is undoubtedly the most popular luxury SUV globally. The latest update brings with it a number of changes that will certainly elevate its ownership experience.
Exterior changes
Starting with the exterior styling, it gets a set of new headlights with Mercedes Digital Light tech and star-shaped LED daytime running lights embedded inside. A new Maybach grille with illuminated logo and bezel is accentuated by a new front bumper.
The side profile is almost unaltered, and the iconic Monobloc chrome 23-inch rims are offered as an option, while the standard model comes with the 22-inch rims. The rear profile now features the new LED taillights with the star-shaped illumination, and a new bumper.
Interior updates
Step inside, and the new 2026 GLS 580 welcomes with a new Hyperscreen triple-connected screen layout. The infotainment has been upgraded with the latest MB.OS software that features the AI assistant combining ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot. Additionally, the car now gets OTA or over-the-air updates.
With the new Hyperscreen, the dashboard layout has also been updated, and the turbine-styled air-conditioning vents have been positioned to the extreme sides, while two horizontal vents in the centre have replaced the outgoing four-vent design.
Other interior updates include the improved seat massaging functionality on the front seats, while the rear seat now gets thigh-massaging function, along with new interior customisation options, improved sound insulation, and an upgraded 15-speaker 3D Burmester 710W sound system.
Engine specs
Another big update on the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS is the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that now makes 603 bhp and 850 Nm. It offers a big jump in power, offering 53 bhp and 121 Nm more than the previous model. It also gets the 48V mild-hybrid motor that offers a punch of 23 bhp.
Mercedes has also added air suspension as standard equipment on the new GLS 580. Additionally, the steering feedback is also claimed to have improved. Meanwhile, the cloud-based predictive damping is also offered as standard. This feature gathers real-time data from nearby Mercedes vehicles and assesses the road conditions ahead, thus adjusting the suspension damping as per the requirement.
Launch date
Mercedes has not revealed the launch timeline of the new GLS 580 yet. We suspect that it will be launched towards the end of this year or early next year in India.
