TVS Motor Company has introduced a new 2.3 kWh battery pack variant of the iQube electric scooter. This new variant replaces the 2.2 kWh variant with a slightly bigger battery; the scooter now offers more claimed range.
The new 2.3 kWh variant of the iQube is essentially the same as the outgoing 2.2 kWh variant. However, its 0.1 kWh bigger battery offers 20 km more IDC-claimed range than before. The total IDC range that the iQube 2.3 kWh offers is 111 km.
However, the bigger battery does not necessarily equate to more performance. This is the same case here, as the 2.2 kWh variant could do a top speed of 75 km/h, while the 2.3 kWh battery version is limited to 68 km/h. So, that’s a downgrade that you won’t mind, especially seeing the range increase.
With that said, TVS has tried to add some pepper and sauce to make it look like better value for money. The brand has added an LCD instrument console, which in fact is a downgrade from the previous version’s TFT screen. This new console is compatible with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, offering turn-by-turn navigation, SMS/call alerts, etc.
Another setback is the drum brake setup. While the outgoing version got a front disc brake, this one comes with drum brakes on both ends. While we support all other downgrades, this is something that the brand should not have done.
The iQube 2.3 kWh is priced at Rs 1,16,310 (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price, it competes with the Ather Rizta and Ola S1. While Ola is still struggling with sluggish sales, Rizta seems to be the new favourite of buyers. Meanwhile, the fight from Bajaj Chetak also continues.
