Yamaha is all set to launch the new YZF-R2 sports bike in India tomorrow. The brand has teased the upcoming model on its official social media channels and the website. The new teaser shows the side panels and the body graphics of the R2, which look familiar to the R15.
Yamaha R2: What to expect from it?
The new R2 is suspected to be based on the same platform as the R15. In fact, online reports hint that it will use a big-bore version of the same 155cc engine as the R15. This engine generates 18 bhp on the R15, and with the big-bore kit and VVA tech, this number can easily surpass 22 bhp on the R2.
Since it is an ‘R’ series bike, it will get a full fairing design with a committed riding position, a sculpted fuel tank, a raised tail section design, split seats, and sharp bodywork. Moreover, the teaser already confirmed that it will get sharp body panels with an aerodynamic design.
Moving on, the official teaser that plays on Yamaha India’s website shows the new R2 with twin split eyebrow-type daytime running LEDs. We suspect that the front design will get inspired from the YZF-R9, and it will boast a single projector headlight in the middle of the fairing.
Hardware of the new R2 is likely to include the USD front forks, a gas-charged rear monoshock suspension with preload adjustability, 17-inch alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, a dual-channel ABS, and more. The electronic aids are likely to include a coloured TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity, ride and traction modes, gear shift indicator light, ride-by-wire throttle, slipper clutch, and more.
Yamaha will position the R2 against the KTM RC 200. The latter is priced at Rs 2.17 lakh, and we suspect that the R2 will also be priced similarly.
