BMW Motorrad is gearing up to launch the F 450 GS, its latest entry-level adventure motorcycle, and it’s officially production-ready. Spy shots and patent leaks confirm that the bike has shed its camouflage and is rolling out in near-final trim. Built on an all-new platform, the F 450 GS will sit below the F 850 GS and aims to take on rivals like the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and Honda NX500.

The bike will be manufactured in India, thanks to BMW’s alliance with TVS, and will cater to both domestic and export markets.

Hardware and design

The new F 450 GS borrows its design cues from is elder sibling the R 1300 GS. The motorcycle features a sculpted fuel tank and integrated front beak. It also gets golden USD forks with hand guards, a split seat and raised handlebar for upright ergonomics. We can also see alloy wheels that are 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the back. Optional cross-spoke wheels for off-road aficionados might also be offered as an accessory or an upgrade pack.

Engine and performance

BMW has developed a brand-new parallel-twin 450 cc mill for the F 450 GS. It is expected to produce 47-50 bhp and approx. 45 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. The new engine could also power the next generation of BMW motorcycles and scooters produced in India.

Features and technology

Since this is a BMW, we expect it to be loaded with features. The motorcycle will get multiple riding modes, switchable and cornering ABS, traction control, Quick Shifter, a large TFT screen with bluetooth connectivity, etc.

Anticipated pricing and date of launch

The BMW badge will command a premium and with the new GST norms, the motorcycle might be a little more expensive than expected. We estimate BMW to price the new F 450 GS at around INR 4 to 4.5 lakh ex-showroom. Since it is production ready, it is likely to be launched soon. We wouldn’t be surprised if BMW makes an announcement this festive season.
