What is new on the 2026 Toyota Hilux?
The 2026 Hilux is based on the current model, as it uses the same TNGA-F platform without any tailoring. But the design is all new, and it looks inspired by the new RAV4 Hybrid and the Land Cruiser Prado.
The front fascia now uses the new C-shaped DRLS and LED headlights, along with a new rectangular grille and an upright front profile with the new bumper. It also gets the foglights embedded on the lower half of the bumper, and a big bash plate underneath it.
The side profile is largely unchanged, but it does get the new alloy wheels and side steps for cargo loading or management. The rear is still simple in design, as it gets the new LED lights and a new tailgate with Toyota lettering.
Toyota will offer the new Hilux in five variants internationally: WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rouge, and Rugged X. These variants will be available in single- and double-cab options.
Interior and features
On the inside, the cabin sees a big change with the new Land Cruiser Prado-inspired dashboard and the new steering wheel. The soft-touch leather treatment on the door pads, dashboard, and seats makes it a more comfortable vehicle than before.
Toyota has also improved the NVH of the car by increasing the sound deadening. Moreover, it now gets modern features, which offer a feeling of being inside a luxury car. These are as follows:
- 12.3-inch digital console
- 12.3-inch infotainment console with wireless connectivity
- Wireless charging
- Drive modes
- OTA updates
- MyToyota app connectivity
- Electric front seats
- New centre console with easy off-road buttons
- Level 2 ADAS
- 360-degree camera
Engine specs of the 2026 Toyota Hilux
Toyota has not changed the engine specs for the new Hilux. It continues to be powered by the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine. It is paired with the options of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, it now benefits from the 48V hybrid assist for improved performance and more fuel economy.
Toyota has also announced that it will axe the 2.4-litre turbo diesel and the 2.7-litre petrol engines in select markets due to non-compliance with the emission norms. One such market will be Australia.
Toyota is also developing a hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) engine option for the Hilux. It will be based on the 2.8-litre engine option, and is likely to provide high levels of performance and fuel economy.
Toyota has also revealed an all-electric BEV prototype of the Hilux. It is powered by a 59.2 kWh battery pack, which is mounted under the floor. Toyota claims that it delivers 193 bhp of power and a real-world driving range of 300 km. The BEV Hilux is still under development, and it is likely to debut in the future.
India launch and price
As of now, Toyota will sell the new Hilux in the South Asian, Australian, and Middle Eastern markets. The first batch will hit the showrooms in December 2025.
We assume that the new Hilux will make it to the Indian shores by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The price tag will be higher than the current model due to the new features.
