Hyundai Bayon CNG launch confirmed in January 2027

Key highlights

  • Hyundai Bayon CNG launch timeline revealed
  • To be introduced in January 2027
  • Likely to get the same CNG engine as the Carens Clavis CNG

Hyundai launched its latest SUV in India yesterday, called the Bayon. This new crossover-cum-SUV closes the gap between the Venue and the Creta, where the latter is likely to step in the next generation in early 2027.

The Bayon is currently available only with a single engine option. This powertrain is carried over from the Creta, and it is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. The official specification sheet lists that this engine offers 113.8 bhp and 144 Nm, while being paired with a six-speed manual or an iVT automatic gearbox.

This engine is for sure a reliable unit, as it has been long-serving for Creta owners worldwide. However, at 18.6 km/l (claimed) fuel economy, this might not be the most feasible choice for buyers with high annual running.

Hence, Hyundai had already planned and announced during the launch of the Bayon that its first update will arrive next year, in January 2027, in the form of a CNG powertrain. As per expectations and rumours, the CNG engine will be the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that is used on the Carens Clavis CNG.

On the Carens Clavis CNG, this powertrain makes 95 bhp and 123 Nm, and it is offered with a six-speed manual transmission only. Mind you, these figures are for the Carens Clavis CNG, and the official technical details about the Bayon CNG have not been revealed.

Interestingly, the Carens Clavis CNG is equipped with a 60-litre CNG tank. We believe that due to Bayon’s smaller size in comparison to the Clavis, the Bayon CNG will get the Hy-CNG technology to save boot space.

Since Hyundai has announced that the Bayon CNG will launch in January 2027, we suggest that new buyers wait before plunging towards rivals. In our estimation, the CNG variants of Bayon will be around Rs 1 lakh more expensive than their respective petrol variants.
