Hyundai Creta crosses 2 lakh annual sales milestone

Key highlights

  • Hyundai Creta records its highest ever annual sales with over 200,000 units sold in a single calendar year
  • An average of 550 Cretas found new homes every day, underlining its dominance in the midsize SUV space
  • Diesel and sunroof variants continue to drive demand, while first time buyers rise sharply

The Hyundai Creta has crossed a milestone that most cars only dream of. More than 200,000 units sold in a single calendar year. That makes it the highest annual sales figure ever achieved by the model since its launch in India. Put simply, Hyundai sold around 550 Cretas every single day.

This achievement also reinforces the Creta’s position as the best selling midsize SUV in India over the last five years on a cumulative basis. In a segment crowded with fresh launches, aggressive pricing, and feature loaded rivals, the Creta continues to sit comfortably on top.

Why the Creta keeps winning

Hyundai offers something for everyone here. Petrol, turbo petrol, diesel, manual, automatic, DCT, IVT and now even electric.

Data from the latest sales year shows how buyer preferences are evolving. Over 70 percent of Creta buyers chose variants with a sunroof. Clearly, the glass roof has become less of a luxury and more of a checklist item. Diesel power still matters too, contributing nearly 44 percent of total sales. That is a strong signal in an era where many brands are quietly backing away from diesel.

Another interesting shift is the rise of first time car buyers. Their share has jumped significantly over the last few years. The Creta is no longer just an upgrade car. It is now a first big purchase for many families.

Ten years strong and still growing

The Creta recently completed a decade in India. Over this period, it has clocked a healthy compound annual growth rate of over 9 percent. That is rare for any nameplate, especially in one of the most competitive segments in the market. Hyundai’s ability to refresh the car at the right time, load it with features buyers actually want, and keep pricing aggressive has played a big role.

The road ahead

With the ICE version going strong and the electric Creta now part of the lineup, Hyundai has future proofed its bestseller. What’s missing? A strong hybrid version of the Creta. Once that is launced, the Creta could become the only car in the market to offer every powertrain.

Competition will only get fiercer. New SUVs will come loaded with screens, ADAS, and loud marketing campaigns.
