New Skoda Kushaq rolls out of Pune plant as production begins

Key highlights

  • Skoda Auto Volkswagen India starts production of the new Skoda Kushaq at its Chakan plant in Pune
  • Updated SUV gets premium additions including a panoramic sunroof and segment-first rear seat massage function
  • New 8-speed torque converter automatic joins the lineup alongside the existing engine options

Production of the new Skoda Kushaq has officially begun at the Chakan facility in Pune. This is not just a routine update. The Kushaq was the first product under the brand’s India 2.0 strategy. It was designed specifically for Indian conditions and buyers. Now, the updated version rolls off the same line with more features and sharper positioning.

What’s new in the updated Kushaq

The refreshed Kushaq brings tangible upgrades. The headline addition is a panoramic sunroof, which has become almost mandatory in this segment. Skoda has also introduced a rear seat massage function, which it claims is a segment first. That will certainly catch attention in showroom conversations.

Another major change is the introduction of an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This new gearbox aims to improve refinement and efficiency while giving buyers a more relaxed driving experience.

The Kushaq continues to focus heavily on safety. It retains its 5-star crash safety credentials and now offers up to 40 active and passive safety features.

In short, this is not a cosmetic tweak. Skoda has strengthened the core package.

Competitive space just got tighter

The compact SUV segment remains one of the most intense in India. Buyers demand strong safety, premium features and smooth automatics. Skoda appears to have listened carefully.

The addition of the 8-speed automatic positions the Kushaq more competitively against rivals offering advanced torque converters and dual-clutch units. The panoramic sunroof also ensures it ticks a major buyer checklist item.

Pune plant strengthens its global footprint

The Chakan facility is now firmly integrated into Skoda’s global ecosystem. It has helped the group cross 2 million locally produced vehicles in India. It also supports exports to over 40 countries.

Starting production of the updated Kushaq here reinforces India’s importance, not just as a sales market but as a manufacturing base.
