Design and platform

The new i3 is based on BMW’s Neue Klasse design language and uses the 2.5 three-box layout with a completely closed underbody and front fascia. At the front, it gets a covered grille with illuminated boundaries and fang-like DRLs. The bumper gets aero dams for improved efficiency.

Similarly, the side profile gets a ‘box’ design, which BMW has used to offer better interior comfort and space. The flared wheel arches and the upright boot feature the sleek LED lights and the big aerodynamic alloy wheels.

In terms of dimensions, the i3 measures 4,760 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height. It offers a wheelbase of 2,897 mm.

Interior and features

On the inside, the cabin features a similar design language to the iX3 e-SUV. It gets the new hexagonal steering wheel and a diagonal 17.9-inch infotainment screen. Moreover, it features a full-width augmented Panoramic Vision HUD that runs from A-pillar to A-pillar.

BMW has eliminated most physical buttons, as the central console features select control buttons like gearshifts, hazard warning button, e-parking brake, and more. The interior of the i3 can accommodate five passengers, but it is suspected to be more of a chauffeur-driven EV.

In terms of features, it comes loaded with a wide array of ADAS features, a panoramic sunroof, mood lights, powered front seats, wireless charging, AI-assisted voice commands, and more.

Battery specs and range

The new i3 is packed with an 800V architecture and a 108.7 kWh battery. It comes with a dual-electric motor setup on the i3 50 xDrive, which offers 469 bhp and 645 Nm. This variant is rated to offer 900 km range as per the WLTP cycle.

Moreover, the i3 can add up to 400 km range in just 10 minutes of charging as it supports up to 400 kW of DC charging.

When will it launch?

BMW has announced that it will start the production of the i3 in August 2026, and it will hit the roads in Europe by September-November 2026. It will launch in India next year, and it is expected to be priced around Rs 70-80 lakh.
