Triumph 350cc bikes to be sold as 400 – Why?

The latest online reports are hinting at a new story about the upcoming 350cc range of motorcycles from Triumph. In an interesting take, the brand is likely going to sell the downsized models under the old 400 nameplate.

While we are yet to witness the official launch and a press release about the nameplate, we firmly believe that Bajaj has decided to sell these bikes under the 400 name because the latter has already achieved a premium brand value across India, and the company might not want to lose that leverage.

Moreover, the online reports hint that the downsizing will not be massive. It is being reported that the new engine is likely going to be a 349.16cc unit, which will witness a drop of 1.8 Nm from the current output of 37.5 Nm. Meanwhile, the power output is likely to remain around 40 PS, as on the current model.

This 24cc downsizing will be achieved via reducing the stroke, which will improve the low-end acceleration and mid-range punch, while reducing the top-end power to a certain extent. Triumph has scheduled the launch of the new 350cc range on April 6, and more details about it will be revealed then.
