Hyundai reveals the Ioniq V at Auto China 2026, its first China-exclusive EV

Key Highlights

  • Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq V at Auto China 2026 in Beijing as its first dedicated Ioniq production model for the Chinese market.
  • The car is based on the Venus Concept revealed earlier this month and targets over 600 km of range on the CLTC cycle.
  • Pricing and exact launch timing have not been announced yet.

Hyundai has had a tough few years in China. In a market where BYD moves millions of units, Beijing Hyundai managed just 125,726 vehicle sales in 2025. The Ioniq V, unveiled at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, is Hyundai’s opening move in what it is calling its most ambitious chapter in China yet.

The Ioniq V

The Ioniq V is the production version of the Venus Concept that Hyundai previewed just weeks ago. It is the first Ioniq model designed specifically for Chinese customers, sitting at the centre of a new sub-brand strategy that Hyundai is calling Ioniq Universe. Think of it as a dedicated IONIQ ecosystem built entirely around the priorities of Chinese EV buyers, which currently means long range, intelligent technology, and design that makes a statement.

The numbers are big. At 4,900 mm long and 1,890 mm wide, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, this is a large car. Hyundai claims class-leading legroom of 1,078 mm in the front and 1,019 mm in the rear. For a market that values rear passenger space very highly, that wheelbase is a serious selling point.

Range and platform

The long-range variant targets over 600 km on the CLTC cycle. It is worth noting that CLTC figures tend to be optimistic compared to real-world usage, but even with a conservative discount, the Ioniq V should offer genuinely competitive range in the segment it is targeting.

The car rides on an 800V platform and uses CATL batteries, two choices that signal Hyundai is not cutting corners on the hardware. The platform itself is reported to be a new architecture developed jointly with Hyundai’s local partner BAIC, rather than the global E-GMP platform used on Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Technology

The cockpit is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, currently one of the most capable automotive processors available, enabling an LLM-based Smart AI Assistant for voice-driven control of vehicle functions. ADAS features are powered by Momenta, a leading Chinese autonomous driving technology company.

What we do not know

Pricing, battery capacity, motor output, and a specific launch date are all unconfirmed. This is fairly standard practice at Chinese auto shows, where brands reveal the design and headline specs and fill in the details closer to launch once they have a clearer picture of the competitive landscape.
