Key highlights
- Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV has been spottedÂ
- Will sit below the Hyundai Creta Electric in Hyundai’s EV lineup
- Expected to be Hyundai’s first India-focused mass-market EV developed for local and export markets
Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV is inching closer to production. Fresh spy shots of the heavily camouflaged test mule have surfaced online, giving us a better look at what could become one of the most important EV launches from the Korean carmaker in India.
The new EV is expected to make its debut around the festive season later this year and will slot below the Creta Electric, targeting buyers looking for an affordable yet feature-rich electric SUV.
Boxy design with EV-specific styling
Despite the camouflage, a few key design elements are now clearly visible.
The SUV features:
- Upright, boxy proportions
- Chunky wheel arches
- Flush-fitting door handles
- Roof rails
- Distinctive pixel-style lighting elements
- Flat tailgate design
- High ground clearance stance
Several design cues appear inspired by Hyundai’s global EV family, particularly the Inster and Ioniq range. The rear lighting signature, in particular, resembles the pixel-themed treatment seen on Hyundai’s newer electric models.
Expected to be built in India
Hyundai has already confirmed that the new sub-4 metre electric SUV will be manufactured in India and is being developed as a high-localisation product for both domestic sales and export markets. Production is expected to take place at Hyundai’s Tamil Nadu facility.
The model was first hinted at during Hyundai’s investor presentations as part of its aggressive EV expansion strategy for India.
Battery and range expectations
While Hyundai has not revealed official specifications, reports suggest the SUV could use a battery pack in the 40 kWh region with a 350-450 km range.
A single-motor front-wheel-drive setup is likely, focusing on efficiency and affordability rather than outright performance.
Features likely to be offered
Based on visible test mule details and Hyundai’s recent product strategy, the SUV could pack a healthy feature list.
Expected highlights include:
- Dual digital screens
- 360-degree camera
- Connected car technology
- Wireless smartphone connectivity
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability
- ADAS features on higher variants
- Automatic climate control
- Ventilated seats
Spy shots have already revealed camera modules on the ORVMs, suggesting a 360-degree camera system could be on offer.
The upcoming EV will likely become Hyundai’s most affordable SUV-based electric vehicle in India. This positioning would allow Hyundai to target the fast-growing mass-market EV segment more aggressively.
