Tata Punch becomes the best-selling car of India in June 2026

Key highlights

  • Tata Punch becomes the best-selling car
  • 21,006 units were sold in June 2026
  • The second-best-selling car was the Tata Nexon

The monthly car sales report for June 2026 has landed, and as expected, Tata’s little warrior, the Punch, has finally made it to the top of the chart. The Punch micro-SUV became the best-selling car in India last month by selling 21,006 units.

Following its tail is its elder sibling, the Nexon. Tata sold 18,335 units of the Nexon in June 2026. However, it is the Punch that has achieved a record-breaking growth of 101 per cent Y-o-Y or year-on-year.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Dzire compact sedan was third in the top sales chart for June 2026. Maruti Suzuki sold 17,889 units of the Dzire, all thanks to its Tour variant that contributes a big chunk of total sales as it is available only as a taxi.

Meanwhile, Mahindra’s only car in the top 10 selling cars in June 2026 was the Scorpio N. The brand sold 14,097 units of the Scoprio N, which is a big feat considering that the Scorpio N is a pricier SUV.

Why is the Tata Punch so popular?

Speaking of the Punch, it is not only Tata’s best-selling car, but it is also the best-selling car in its segment, the best-selling car in India, and the best-selling SUV. All these titles did not come overnight. Tata has ironed out the flaws of the first-gen Punch in the latest facelifted model, which not only offers 5-star safety, but also comes with modern features like a sunroof, 360-degree camera, digital console, JBL sound system, and more.

The primary factor behind Punch’s sales is its wide range of powertrains. The little SUV is available with a 1.2L petrol, a 1.2L CNG, and also in a fully electric avatar, which makes it popular among a wide array of buyers. Additionally, it is the only SUV with an automatic gearbox with a CNG powertrain, which makes it popular among urban buyers. The cherry on top of the cake is Tata’s build quality and trust, which pulls thousands of customers to showrooms.
