Ather Energy is putting the Konarc through some rather serious testing before its official debut. The upcoming electric scooter has been spotted undergoing high-altitude testing in the Himalayas, suggesting that Ather is checking how its new platform performs in more demanding conditions.
The Konarc will be officially launched on August 29 at Ather Community Day 2026. Ather had recently confirmed the scooter’s name after showing its EL01 concept, and the company appears to be positioning it below the performance-focused 450 range.
The latest sighting is interesting because high-altitude testing can put additional demands on a vehicle. For an electric scooter, factors such as steep climbs, varying temperatures and prolonged load conditions can provide useful data before the product reaches customers.
Ather has not revealed exactly how much altitude the Konarc has been tested at or what specific testing parameters are being evaluated.
What we do know is that the scooter is being developed around Ather’s EL platform, which was first previewed through the EL-01 concept. The platform uses a steel unibody construction, rather than the aluminium chassis used by Ather’s more performance-oriented models.
Designed to be more affordable
Instead of chasing outright performance like the 450 series, the new scooter is expected to focus on practicality and affordability. This should allow Ather to reach a wider audience and take on mainstream electric scooters from manufacturers such as TVS, Bajaj and Hero.
The EL platform is designed to support battery capacities ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh. However, Ather has not yet confirmed which battery options will be offered on the Konarc. The scooter is expected to be sold in High Range and Low Range variants.
The Konarc uses a swingarm-mounted electric motor, while suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork and a single rear shock absorber. It also gets a 14-inch front wheel and 12-inch rear wheel.
Ather has been testing the new scooter extensively before its launch, and the Himalayan sighting suggests the company wants to make sure the product is ready for a variety of Indian conditions.
