Hyundai has patented the design of the Boulder concept SUV in India. The new Boulder concept premiered at the New York Auto Show 2026 in April this year. It is Hyundai’s first body-on-frame model, which is expected to take a production shape by 2030.
Hyundai Boulder: What do we know so far?
The design patent filed in India is identical to the concept that previewed earlier this year. The Boulder concept SUV is based on a new modular 4×4 ladder-frame platform, which has been designed to house a number of SUVs in the future. Hyundai has already confirmed a new boxy SUV for India, which will get 4WD, and it will be introduced by 2030. This new SUV could be derived from the Boulder concept.
The design patent shows a Ford Bronco-like styling, which Hyundai calls the ‘Art of Steel’ philosophy. This new design laguage boasts squared-off wheel arches, sleek LED lights, wide rear haunches, big 18-inch off-road rims, and a tailgate that can be opened from either sides. The tail windscreen can also be operated by a button, which makes it suitable for overlanding purposes.
Moving on, the interior on the concept model showcased aircraft-inspired cockpit with toggle-type switches on the central console for HVAC, traction control, and other features. It also showcased a new four-spoke steering wheel with rotary buttons on it, and segmented screens on the central console that show off-road telemetry.
Hyundai is yet to confirm whether the first production SUV based on the Boulder’s concept will be an EV or a hybrid. However, online rumours suggest that the first version is most likely to be an EV. During the concept reveal, Hyundai had confirmed that this version might not make it to the production, but customers can expect a similar-looking SUV to hit the production line somewhere by 2030.
