Renault India has resumed exports to Sri Lanka, taking its international export footprint to 16 countries. The first shipment of 100 Made-in-India vehicles has already departed from Chennai, marking the French automaker’s return to the Sri Lankan market.
All models?
The initial shipment comprises the all-new Triber, Kwid and Kiger, all manufactured at Renault India’s facility in Oragadam, Chennai. The plant caters to both the domestic market and Renault’s international requirements, highlighting India’s growing role as an export base for the automaker.
Renault will re-enter Sri Lanka in partnership with AMW Motors, one of the country’s leading automotive distributors. The partnership will support Renault’s renewed commercial operations and help establish the brand’s presence as it rebuilds its business in the market.
The company also plans to expand its Sri Lankan portfolio over time. The new Duster is among the models slated for introduction, allowing Renault to participate in a wider range of segments in the market.
Other international markets
Sri Lanka is not the only international market being supplied from India. Renault says it has exported nearly 200,000 vehicles from India to date, with markets including South Africa and Saudi Arabia alongside several other international destinations.
The expansion also reinforces the importance of Renault’s Chennai manufacturing operation. The Oragadam facility has an annual production capacity of 4.8 lakh vehicles, while Renault India currently has close to 638 sales and service touchpoints across the country.
With the Triber, Kwid and Kiger leading the re-entry and the new Duster planned next, Renault is also looking to build a broader product presence rather than simply resume exports.
