Triumph’s upcoming motorcycle for the Indian market will be based on the Bonneville roadster motorcycle. It is likely to be based on the new downsized 349cc engine, and the final test mules are now taking rounds ahead of its launch in the coming weeks.
The latest sighting of the upcoming Bonneville 400 (expected name) shows that the bike is almost ready to hit the production line. The black-coloured test bike was spotted with production-spec hardware.
From what we can see in the spy shots, it will offer a typical Bonneville roadster design with an upright and relaxed riding posture, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a single seat, spoked rims (possibly tubeless), and a similar tail section design to the bigger Bonneville models like the T120.
Triumph is likely to use the new 349cc engine for the Indian market, while the European and other global markets are likely to feature the 399cc liquid-cooled engine. This engine will be retuned for better low-end response and a meaty mid-range, which will suit its laid-back riding posture more. Other visible details includes a telescopic front suspension and dual shock absorbers at the rear, a setup which suits a roadster better due to its comfort quotient.
Since it will be a roadster, it is likely to carry limited technology such as an analogue speedometer with an LCD for basic information display and Bluetooth connectivity for SMS/call alerts, etc. Triumph is expected to equip it with dual-channel ABS and a switchable traction control system as part of the safety package.
While Triumph India has kept mum about the launch details of the Bonneville 400, we believe that it will be introduced before the Diwali festival later this year. The Bonneville 400 will rival the Honda CB350 Classic and the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which further hints that it could be priced around Rs 2 lakh.
