Key highlights
- Bajaj Chetak has crossed 10 lakh cumulative retail sales since its launch in January 2020
- Sales in 2026 have reached 4.12 lakh units, registering 73% year-on-year growth
- Its market share in the electric two-wheeler segment has climbed to 22.5%
Bajaj Auto has crossed the 10 lakh cumulative retail sales milestone for the Chetak electric scooter in India. According to data from the Vahan portal as of November 6, 2026, the company has recorded 10,01,135 units since the scooter’s launch in January 2020. This makes Bajaj the third electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India to cross the milestone, after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Company.
What makes this achievement particularly interesting is how sharply the Chetak’s fortunes have changed over the past couple of years. After a relatively slow start, the electric scooter has emerged as one of the stronger performers in the segment, with 2026 turning out to be its best year yet.
Chetak sales gather momentum
The Chetak’s initial years were marked by modest volumes, partly due to the early stage of the electric two-wheeler market and Bajaj’s limited EV-specific sales network. The numbers began improving significantly in 2024, when the company sold 2,01,167 units, a 168% increase over the 75,112 units recorded in 2023.
In 2025, sales grew another 39% to 2,79,691 units, helping Bajaj move into the second position among electric two-wheeler manufacturers for the first time.
The momentum has strengthened further this year. Between January 1 and November 6, 2026, the Chetak recorded retail sales of 4,12,409 units, up 73% year-on-year. It has already crossed the 3 lakh and 4 lakh annual sales milestones for the first time.
October was particularly strong, with 49,170 units sold, marking the scooter’s highest monthly retail sales so far.
Market share rises
The growth is also reflected in the Chetak’s increasing share of India’s electric two-wheeler market. From around 4% in 2022, its market share rose to 16.56% in 2024 and 20.83% in 2025. For the period between January 1 and November 6, 2026, it stood at 22.5%.
Bajaj currently trails TVS Motor Company, which has sold 4,81,704 electric two-wheelers during the same period and holds a 26% market share. However, Bajaj remains ahead of Ather Energy, Hero Vida and Ola Electric in the year-to-date rankings.
With 87,591 more units needed to reach the 5 lakh sales mark in 2026, Bajaj has a realistic target to chase over the remaining weeks of the year.
