Citroen India has a reason to celebrate. The Aircross SUV has officially secured a 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection in the latest Bharat NCAP crash tests. The rating applies to the 5-seater variant, tested in its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol automatic form. This marks a major milestone for the brand, especially under its renewed ‘Citroen 2.0’ strategy that puts safety front and center.
The Aircross scored 27.05 out of 32 in adult protection, including full marks in the side impact test. It also earned 11.05 out of 16 in the frontal offset test. For child safety, it scored 40 out of 49, translating to a solid 4-star rating. The SUV aced the dynamic crash test and CRS installation, but lost points in vehicle assessment.
Safety features that back the rating
The Aircross isn’t just a crash-test hero—it’s loaded with real-world safety tech. Standard across all variants:
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- ISOFIX child seat anchors
- Hill-hold assist
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- Pedestrian protection compliance
- Seatbelt reminders for all rows
The SUV uses a mix of high-strength, advanced high-strength, and ultra-high-strength steel to manage crash forces and reduce cabin intrusion. That’s not just engineering—it’s peace of mind.
Powertrain and variants
The Aircross is available in both 5-seater and 5+2 layouts. Engine options include:
- 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol (82 hp)
- 1.2L turbo-petrol (110 hp, 205 Nm)
Transmission choices span a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and 6-speed automatic. The tested variant was the Turbo AT Max 5S, which now stands as the safest Citroen SUV in India.
