A recent media report has revealed that BYD is planning to introduce its luxury sub-brand Denza in India by the end of this year. Denza will be positioned above the BYD lineup, and the first two models to launch will include the D9 luxury MPV and the Z9 GT electric fastback.
BYD Denza Z9 GT: What to expect?
The Denza Z9 GT is BYD’s fastest and most powerful shooting brake four-door fastback. While it comes with a PHEV and EV powertrain in China, BYD plans to launch its electric version in India later this year.
As per the online source, the Denza Z9 GT will be offered with a 122.5 kWh blade battery and a triple electric motor setup (one at the front and two at the rear), which will offer up to 1,156 bhp of power. This massive power output can propel the Z9 GT from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and offer a top speed of 270 km/h.
Not only that, but the Z9 GT supports up to 1,500kW DC ultra-fast charging, which can juice it from 10 to 97 per cent in just 9 minutes of charging. Denza will position the Z9 GT as the flagship BYD product in India, and it is expected to be priced around Rs 1.3 crore to Rs 1.5 crore.
The Z9 GT boasts a low-slung, wide footprint with fastback styling. It features sleek design cues like sharp LED lights, low-profile aerodynamic wheels, flush door handles, and an active aero package. The Z9 GT also gets rear-wheel steering that offers a crab-crawl sideways feature for easy parking.
The interior of the Z9 GT packs a five-seater layout with rich leather upholstery, soft-touch materials, and technologies like five screens with digital rear-view mirrors, Level 2+ ADAS, and air suspension, electric seats with ventilation, heating, massaging, etc.
Denza D9 electric MPV to compete with the Toyota Vellfire
Along with the Z9 GT, Denza will also launch the D9 electric MPV that will be slotted between the JSW MG M9 and the Toyota Vellfire. It is also based on blade cell technology, and it comes powered by a 103kWh blade battery that offers 313 bhp and 360 Nm, while the WLTP-claimed range is 520 km.
The D9 MPV features a seven-seater configuration with captain second-row seats. Comfort and convenience features on it includes rear individual entertainment package, massaging seats, extendable thigh support with seat ventilation and heating, headrest-mounted speakers, ambient lighting, wireless connectivity, wi-fi, a premium Dynaudio sound system, and Level 2+ ADAS features for safety.
Both of these Denza electric vehicles are scheduled to be launched later this year in India. Denza will be a premium iteration of BYD, and hence all products will be positioned above BYD’s current lineup.
